- A bonus novella that shows ViRauni’s return to Narath, where she discovers the kliosts have overrun the island. Corsis and Hekati unleashed them. Halonir contacts her and tells her to destroy her old forest. It is beyond saving.
- ViRauni, Durduun, and the death god’s sister fight through fleshmancy hordes to the center of ViRauni’s old forest home.
- ViRauni encounters a clone of her deceased husband who torments her with enticement to join him and give in to Corsis. She kills him with heart-wrenching coldness. Durduun and ViRauni use their death powers to disintegrate the forest into dust.
- The book ends with ViRauni rekindling her old relationship with Durduun, but they must first tell Ashe at Durduun’s insistence. This thread will be picked up in the fourth book, the Breakers.
